Clouds, a Rainbow, and Sunshine….Get ready for summer with Gracious Threads + Giveaway!

Have you started sewing for summer yet? If not, I have the Spring Summer Collection 2015    from Gracious Threads to tell you about…plus a giveaway!!!

Gracious

I had the privilege of testing these patterns for Jessica.  My daughter loves the shirt so much that it’s on a revolving cycles through the wash and on her body! Her skirt went to Gramma’s on Sunday for our weekly dinner and the headband is ready for her next Girls on the Run on Wednesday.

The Cirrus Skirt. What a cute name. This bundle is screaming for summer. This cute Cirrus skirt is great for a walk with the pup or checking out the fruit trees. This pattern is made with knit, so it’s made to move with your girl. Comfy pants without legs.

cloud4The Cirrus is an A-line skirt with front pockets. Exterior top stitching gives it a sporty yet cute detail. I debated using my twin needle but decided to stop stitch with what I like to call, the ladder, a.k.a decorative stitch #35.

Another sporty feature is the drawstring front. It can be a faux drawstring by merely looping a smaller piece of twill tape through the button holes. You don’t want to use button holes, or twill tape? No problem. Use grommets and a piece of ribbon or make your own drawstring! There are so many possibilities.

I made E a size 12. She needs the length although with the next one, I believe I’ll use a 6, maybe an 8 with a 12 length. That’s the great thing about making clothes for our kids….we can customize them so easily!!

So, on to the Rainbow Tee. This is hands-down E’s favorite shirt ever! As soon as it emerges from the wash, she puts in back on. I chose a light weight knit that was super soft. That’s my girl…anything soft.  rainbow1

This is the best fitting shirt she’s ever had. It’s a straight 12. I believe the drape of the knit lent itself well to this shirt!

A great little detail of  this pattern is the use of picot elastic, something I’d never used before. I had some on hand in a very unflattering color for this shirt. I made a quick trip to Wooden Bridge for some, but proceeded to use it wrong! LOL!  Ah, I love learning new things! I don’t really mind how the picot turned out. It gave her shirt a sweet feminine touch with the sporty gray stripes. I just should have flipped it mostly to the interior. 😉 Next time. Jessica has a  a link to show you how to do picot or you can chose option B for interior elastic. 🙂

This shirt is such a great fit….and there is another view. View B!! The most adorable color blocked top you will find! Use a print, use stripes, or mix and match for a super sweet color blocked Rainbow Tee. (I’m collecting my knits for View B 🙂 )

Then there is the Sunshine Headband…it is a great scrap buster.  Fully enclosed underside elastic ensures a comfy fit with a smooth topside.  There are 3 sizes ranging from wee lil babes(12mos.) to adult.  You will have the option to print the pattern for the headband or use the measurements Jessica gives for a paperless pattern.

Jessica’s patterns are very well written and the pattern pieces go together very easily. There are two assembly options for her patterns,  trim and no trim. I prefer to trim ;).

Then there is printing in layers. Have you ever printed in layers? It is FANTASTIC!!! I use Adobe to open my PDF’s and can select the sizes I want to print. I typically print two sizes, a bodice and length size for my tall skinny girl. Combining sizes is very easy with her patterns as well.

Sewing time:

skirt~ 1.5 hrs easily.

shirt~  less than an 1 hour

headband ~ 20 minutes, easy!

Each pattern also lends itself well to creativity. There are so many cute knits out there nowadays. Time to go shopping! Here is the bundle!

Thank you Jessica for the opportunity to sew for you!

**Jessica has offered to give one of my lucky readers the bundle!! If you’d like the chance to win her bundle, leave a comment below telling me which pattern you are anxious to sew and what material you have in mind! (Random ‘official’ drawing 😉  to take place Monday evening, April 27th.)

Go visit Jessica at Gracious Threads for another chance to win!
