A couple weeks before Easter, between snow storms, I had the opportunity to test out a pattern designed by Olga of Kid Approved. It was a fun sew with gathers at the hips, dolman sleeves, and an exposed zipper. Curved gathers…how interesting!! I couldn’t wait to get started.
E decided that The Antalya Dress would be her Easter dress! She was so excited that once it was done, she hid it so no one would see it until Easter morning! LOL
Before Easter, it was windy. It was cold. E was a trooper.
Let’s take a closer look at the dress. The Antalya dress has adorable curved gathers at the sides that swing around back. Because this was the second dress I’d made, I top stitched the main fabric. I also combined two sizes for this dress. I made E a 7 bodice and 12 length for her long lean body.
It has an exposed zipper with the option of a button loop back. I’d never done an exposed zipper on a garment, so I wanted to give it a try. It also includes optional piping between the bodice and sides.
For the first Antalya dress, E had picked out some material at JAF, pink/orange flowers and solid orange. I washed it in preparation for sewing, and then I saw it. I huge flaw in the flower material, a white line smack dab down middle of the piece. That made it unusable for this project. JAF was kind enough to exchange it for me, but it was too late to use it since we couldn’t get back there right away. We were bummed. But, what do you do? Well, you pick out something else…from Momma’s stash ;).
While she slept, I got to work. I had a really cute blue and orange striped shirting that looked nice with the orange we’d purchased.
I love the length of the Antalya Dress. It has a nice full gathered bottom and hits just above the knee.
This dress was a straight size 12.
Even though we didn’t have much snow, it was still cold….Thanks E for being a good sport! (Little did we know we’d be getting more snow.)
YAY! The snow melted just in time for the egg hunt at Gramma and PopPop’s!
(Haha, it was a rough hunt! )
Thank you, Olga, for the opportunity to sew for you! XO
